Hi! I'm Jacopo, a software engineer from Italy (🇮🇹) currently living in Canada (🇨🇦). Occasionally, I write.
Right now I'm getting Air Gap off the ground. In the past:
- (2025–26) Senior Software Development Engineer at AWS — Led a team in the Security organization of Amazon Aurora in Toronto. Shipped a rewrite of the RDS Control Plane data access layer and a major (yet to be announced) security hardening initiative.
- (2024–25) Senior Software Development Engineer at AWS — Led the Availability team of Amazon Aurora in Vancouver. Designed and built a global-scale system for sub-3-second DNS propagation serving all of RDS.
- (2022–24) Software Development Engineer II at AWS — Member of the Availability team of Amazon Aurora in Vancouver, where I was lucky to learn from some of the best people in the industry.
- (2021–22) Contract Developer at Meritis — A short contract while waiting for my Canadian work permit. Still managed to ship an internal tool for Facebook and secure the company another contract.
- (2019–21) Software Engineer at Nabla — Founding engineer of a startup building AI assistants for doctors.
- (2016–18) Junior Fellow at CERN — Led the development of INSPIRE (Google Scholar for high-energy physics).
- (2015) Technical Student at CERN — Contributed to Invenio, the framework used by INSPIRE and Zenodo.
- (2014) Contract Developer at the University of Pisa — Built applications for the Department of Mathematics.
- (2012–14) Master's Degree in Computer Science at the University of Pisa — Dropped out a few courses short of graduation due to lack of funds (GPA: 4.0).
- (2006–12) Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics at the University of Pisa — Graduated with a thesis on the algorithmic applications of graph entropy.
- (2006) Gold Medal at the Italian Mathematical Olympiad — Qualified to attend the International Mathematical Olympiad selection bootcamp.
- (2006) First Place at the Italian Mathematical Kangaroo — Won an iPod Nano and an embarrassing picture with a giant stuffed kangaroo, which I hope never surfaces.
